Carson’s Village organization did a tremendous job providing me and my family with several reference links to help aid and assist our family during these tough times. We were unprepared for a tragic and sudden loss like a death and they were quick to provide the counseling and assistance that our family needed at that moment. I am very grateful for this organization, I am grateful for my Advocate and I urge everybody to reach out if you are in need.

I cannot thank Carson’s Village enough for your kindness and outreach when my aunt passed. By helping me create the fundraising link, you helped me achieve my Aunt’s wish to be sent home and buried in her home country. I appreciated how kind and compassionate my Advocate was to me and I thank them for the advice/pointers they shared with me. The Advocate definitely helped me carry that heavy burden. I didn’t know how to do it by myself. Thank you so so much. May God bless the work of your organization to impact many more like me.

Barbara and her siblings lost their brother to an unexpected heart attack. They tried contacting the Veterans Administration, but they were told that he did not qualify for benefits, and the family did not have insurance. They then contacted Carson’s Village.

The Carson’s Village Advocate spoke with them about their loved one’s time as a Marine and gave them information about providing necessary documentation to the VA to verify his service. In working with the VA, the advocate was able to determine that he did qualify for benefits and his mother, who is 93, would also receive a flag. The Advocate identified the most reasonably priced funeral home in their area, and the Neal siblings were able to have a service entirely covered by VA benefits along with a headstone in honor of his military service.

The siblings were appreciative that they were able to access the assistance they needed to give their brother the respect he deserved with a proper burial. The Advocate also connected them with counseling resources, and the family was relieved to know that Carson’s Village will continue to support them as they honor their loss and heal emotionally.

The Rodriguez Family

The Rodriguez family lost their young child unexpectedly and was referred to Carson’s Village by a school counselor. Carson’s Village provided a Spanish-speaking Advocate to walk them through all that needed to happen. A family page was set up in both Spanish and English that helped the family raise money to cover the cost of the funeral. The page also allowed the Rodriguez family to communicate the events of the week, so their family and friends could support them during their grieving process. Carson’s Village made a difference: “The family page was great, and it expressed what I could not say.”

Carson’s Village helped us and we are very grateful. My brother passed suddenly and we had nowhere to go for help. Our Advocate helped us find resources and we got to put my brother at peace. They also checked in with us making sure we were dealing with our loss. Our Advocate was amazing and compassionate.

Shirley’s family was referred to Carson’s Village by a social worker in a hospice center as their loved one had cancer and did not have the financial state to cover end-of-life expenses. The contact and family wanted to know options that would give respect to their loved one once they passed. They did not have money for the service and were going to give the remains to the loved one’s daughter.

Through a Carson’s Village Advocate, they were provided pricing for local funeral homes, offered a family support page, and informed of the agencies and organizations they needed to notify. In addition, they were informed about the option of body donation which they were not aware of.

The family ended up choosing to donate their loved one’s body, as the option allowed them to respect their loved one, while also being an option the family could financially afford. The family was so grateful that they could help other people, avoid incurring any debt or high funeral costs, and still have the remains returned. It gave the family peace to know that they could still have their loved ones remains while also helping others, and it was not an option they were aware of before calling Carson’s Village. The family was thankful for someone to talk and walk them through the planning and grieving process and help them use resources they were not aware of.
