Carson’s Village has helped 472 families as of the end of July, including over 150 since the start of the pandemic. These families, some impacted directly by COVID-19 and some impacted by the social distancing restrictions caused by the coronavirus, have struggled to lovingly recognize the loss of their loved ones. Carson’s Village has been honored to stand alongside these families during this difficult time.

North Texas Giving Day is on September 17 and we need your help! Like many nonprofit organizations, Carson’s Village has stretched its capacity to serve families impacted by COVID and any funding we can secure right now will help us build capacity so we can serve even more families in the future.

Early giving for North Texas Giving Day opens on September 1 so please consider the following:

How Your Gift Makes An Impact

Your investment in Carson’s Village helps families like the Garcia Family:

After a traffic accident in which 12-year-old Victor pushed his mother out of the way of a moving car but was tragically killed himself, the Garcia family found themselves paralyzed with grief. They did not know what to do next when Adrian, Victor’s older brother, called Carson’s Village. Carson’s Village Advocate Jason helped them find an affordable funeral home and worked with a community church to have a plot and additional resources donated to the family. Jason worked alongside Adrian to plan the funeral and to coordinate the details to ensure the family was able to honor their young son and brother for his life and heroic death. The family has stayed in the continuing care program, receiving follow up calls and resources from the Carson’s Village advocate and has made itself available through the Village to help other families facing similar challenges. Adrian even offered to share his story on a podcast (Episode 7: Saying Goodbye in the Age of Physical Distancing)  promoting the work of Carson’s Village.

Continuing support is the latest addition to the Carson’s Village suite of resources for families. After families bury their loved one, they begin their grief journey. Carson’s Village provides resources, therapy referrals and regular check-ins with an Advocate for up to a year to ensure that the entire family is grieving in a healthy way. Families can also share their experience through the Village, a peer-to-peer support program that helps families come to terms with their loss.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month. Carson’s Village finds itself at the intersection of crisis and mental health in many cases, as families juggle their grief and the many logistics necessary when a loved one passes. Through Advocate support and continuing care, Carson’s Village ensures that every family we serve has access to the mental health support they need.
